Rothera Air Facility (EGAR) British Antarctic Survey – Antarctica

Reflex-Rol (UK) manufactured and supplied bespoke anti-glare roller blinds for the new operations and control tower at Rothera Research Station, Antarctica, the largest British Antarctic Survey facility on the continent. Located on Adelaide Island, the station supports scientific research, aircraft operations, logistics, and field expeditions in one of the world’s most extreme environments. Controllers and operations staff contend with prolonged daylight, low-angle sun, intense snow reflection, and rapidly changing weather conditions. Reflex-Rol blinds were engineered to minimise glare and solar gain while maintaining clear outward visibility. Custom-fitted to the tower glazing, the system improves visual comfort, reduces eye strain, and supports safe, efficient aircraft movements and operational coordination throughout the Antarctic season.
